The Schuylkill Valley Journal (Print) was started in 1990 and includes 42 issues. The SVJ Print consists of the following: a cover of a Philadelphia sculpture and an article about that cover piece (this past issue the cover was Rocky raising his fist over Philadelphia), fiction (which includes flash fiction), poetry, nonfiction, a featured poet.
The online SVJ was started in 2015. See the SVJ Online at svjlit.com. The SVJ Online includes the following: interviews, photography, cityscapes pieces, articles about Philadelphia sculptures, nonfiction, articles, fiction. The goal for the online SVJ is to use material that is 2,000 words or less. All submissions are considered for both our print and online journals. However, it needs to be noted that poetry is only considered for the SVJ Print.
The goal is to provide a dynamic online presence and to serve as a useful exchange for those engaged in the arts. The theme for the SVJ has always been, as E.M. Forster advised in the epigraph to Howard’s End, “Only Connect!...”
